Spring Break, Woo Hoo! (Please tell me someone gets that reference!) I had big plans for spring break this year – spring cleaning was first on my list. I was going to scrub baseboards, wash windows, clean appliances…the house was going to look great when I got done!
But then reality hit. And by reality, I mean having Nathan home full-time with a puppy in the house. And now I’m just hoping to get the floors swept and mopped by the weekend.
Years ago, I went to Cancun with my two roommates for spring break – it was the first and last time I took a spring break trip during college. I was the “mom” of the group, which will surprise absolutely no one who knows me. One of the duties I took on was making sure one of the other two roomies didn’t have so much fun that she wandered off with someone who was more than likely harmless, but you could never be too careful.
Having Nathan home is reminiscent of Spring Break 1990; he and Gabi have so much fun that he wanders out into the back yard with her, and I have to thwart or follow because you can never be too careful with creatures that might paw you.
How My Spring Break 2015 is Like My 1990 College Spring Break, Part 2: You know that friend who would imbibe a wee bit too much and decided it was Absolutely Imperative that you hear what she had to say, no matter how mundane? The repeating “Hey…Hey…Hey…Hey…Hey…”? That’s Nathan, just substitute “Mom…Mom…Mom…Mom…Mom…”
How My Spring Break 2015 is Like My 1990 College Spring Break, Part 3: With two dogs, one puppy, and Nathan, the odds go way up of stumbling over strange bodily fluids somewhere that you don’t want to see bodily fluids. Immediately after cleaning up a (thankfully very tiny) bit of poo that managed to find its way onto the bathroom wall, I found not one, but two, piles of vomit from an unknown source in the next room I entered.
One bright spot in my week was enjoying a trip to Publix on Wednesday morning with virtually no other shoppers and no wait at the register. I breezed in and out in record time (well, record time considering I had Mr. Spring Break with me). Unfortunately, the experience was marred by the well-meaning cashier who cheerfully inquired, “Are you going to the beach today?”
And then I remembered why Publix was so dead.
I haven’t cleaned, but I have decided what My Next Big Project is going to be: reupholster an old wingback recliner I have in my living room. We put it in the corner of our bedroom “until we decide what to do with it”…six years ago. Now that we have the King Bed (!!!) there isn’t room for it anymore so I moved it into a corner of the living room where I planned to (eventually) create a reading nook. I started Googling and now I’m ready to get going on this thing. I already took it apart. 🙂
After I took the chair apart I took a photo and texted it to Mr. Andi. He had no idea I was thinking of doing anything at all with the chair, so the pieces of chair came as a surprise. He was also keenly aware of how little I’ve accomplished this week, and more to the point, why.
See? I do still have a little bit of my sense of humor left. A very little bit…
Have a great weekend!
