Sun-Beams is a collection of links to stories, articles, photos, or videos I have come across that I believe will inspire, inform, or encourage you, as well as my favorite photo posted on my other blog, Violet Film, from the past week.
Trial Of Marijuana-Based Drug Offers Hope – The condition being treated is a severe form of epilepsy, but I have to wonder (if it’s successful) if it will be expanded to other neurological disorders, like cerebral palsy.
Down syndrome isn’t just cute – The line that punched me in the gut was this one: “If we assert that life with Down syndrome is valuable because our kids are cute and our families are happy, even if that’s always true, then all we do is push the eugenic line down the disability hierarchy.”
What One Man With Down Syndrome Wants You to Understand – A sweet vignette into one family touched by Down syndrome, and their reaction to the mum who wishes she’s aborted her son.
Boy doesn’t let cerebral palsy ruin his football dreams – He’s a sixth grader, like Sarah Kate, and it made me wonder if it’s possible she could return to softball someday.
I saw this video on ESPN’s College Game Day yesterday and it had me in tears. With all of the negativity in college football, stories like this one (and this one I shared with you last year) are a reminder than many of these young men are about more than just football – oh, and he’s also an Auburn guy. 🙂
Photo of the Week:
This one is actually a couple of weeks old, but I haven’t posted it here before. Nathan’s preschool speech teacher wanted to show me a quick video she took of him with her phone when I arrived to pick him up, so she followed us to the car. Nathan apparently hadn’t gotten enough of a nap, so he plopped down on the asphalt next to the car and went back to sleep.
