I completely forgot to share “Diva Pirate” with you last week! I had such an unbelievable 48 hours while I was Vegas, so it was easy to forget, but I can’t pass on sharing it just because I forgot. When I was in Vegas two weeks ago, one of the convention events was a “Diva Las Vegas” theme, and several of us decided to go as Vegas hotels. We had Orleans, Luxor, New York New York, Caesar’s Palace, Flamingo, Hard Rock, Paris and Treasure Island. I was Treasure Island.
I am not known for being “out there” or in any way flamboyant, but I decided to make a big splash this time – so big that many of my friends did not recognize me right away, and the ones that did said it just didn’t compute. So without further ado, Diva Pirate:
If you now or ever have had a child who would not stay in his or her bed, you must listen to Prairie Home Companion’s Wailin’ Jennys sing M.A.S.A. Go here and click on “M.A.S.A.” in the sidebar. You won’t regret it, I promise.

How do you kill flies? In our house, we use rubber bands. Mr. Andi taught me this trick years ago, and it works really well, but outsiders are amazed by it. Although he’s the primary flykiller around here, I have hit my share with ye ol’ rubber band in my time.

Did you see Sarah’s post about “wheelchair people” this week? I try very hard to always assume the scenario that makes me smile, but I’m not sure how you do so in a situation like that one. We’ve not had her experience, but we had a few unpleasant ones at Walt Disney World when Sarah Kate was young enough to ride in a stroller and we asked for an accommodation to use it as a wheelchair. Disney always obliged us, but on a few occasions a park guest felt the need to comment loudly about the stroller, as if we were pulling a fast one on Disney when everyone else had to park theirs.

Speaking of wheelchairs and flying, I flew Southwest to Las Vegas. As I was standing in my spot in line A for the return flight, watching the early boarders file by, I began to wonder how long it will be before Southwest starts having people fake disabilities so they can board first. Maybe it already happens, I don’t know – I imagine the major deterrent to trying it is that although you’d board first, you’d deplane last.
The Runner’s Guide to WDW interviewed me about Sarah Kate’s Princess Mile and the runDisney video and the post went up this week – it’s like the story that keeps on giving and giving and giving. You can find it here.
Just as we were going into Mass on Sunday, we learned that Philip Lutzenkirchen died early that morning in a car accident. He played tight end for our beloved Auburn Tigers. He was only 23. The reason I’m talking about it here, even though I’m sure most of you have never heard of him, is because he was one of the good guys, and in sports at that level, you don’t seem to hear much about the good guys. Here’s the tribute video that was played at his memorial service on Wednesday; his funeral Mass was on Thursday.
That tweet on the intro frame of the video? One of his last.
Godspeed, Lutzie.
Have a great weekend!
