Yep, it’s Friday. Nope, this post isn’t my regular Snippets. I’m still on semi-hiatus (i.e., not my regular posting schedule) for a little longer, but I came across something this morning that I want you to read. Go read it now.
Inclusion isn’t just a box to check, an IEP form to complete, or a carefully structured hiring strategy. Inclusion is about considering the impact of an organization’s actions on others. I appreciate that, on a practical level, not every condition can be accommodated in every instance, and sometimes the needs of the majority have to take precedence, but there’s no reason to think that’s what happened in this case.
Sammi may be fine with how the day plays out – she may even enjoy the fact that she has a hat AND crazy hair. But as a mom of two kids who are always swimming upstream, I know that if Sammi was my child, I would be heartbroken…and even more so because it’s unlikely that anyone else could see it.
