Batboy With Down Syndrome Gets His Own Baseball Card – This is just super-cool.
Disney Parks’ New Pass for the Disabled Is a Dud: A Dad Breaks It Down – Some interesting ideas, but once again I wonder if anyone is listening to the community of people with physical and/or motor disabilities. It seems that much of this new system was designed with autism and/or sensory issues in mind, but little attention is being paid to people like Sarah Kate (who, I will state again, did NOT always – or even usually – bypass the regular queue and ride quicker, contrary to reporting).
Supreme Court to address death penalty and mental disability – What are your thoughts? Should the death penalty be waived based on a person’s IQ?
The Disability Vote -A mostly invisible issue, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t real

That baseball card is too cool!
I don’t know how I feel about the death penalty article. Who’s to say someone doesn’t blow the IQ test on purpose? I’m more of a “depending on the degree the crime was planned out and then how great the aftermath” kinda voter (I don’t even think that made sense but I don’t know how else to word it). There are those with mental disabilities that also do stellar on an IQ test. What then? I think the line would be very gray in this area and there always seem to be loopholes, even for those who “don’t qualify”.

I honestly hadn’t thought too much about the voting issue but after reading that article I realized that the place I’m zoned to vote at is for sure not accessible to many people- you park in the grass and its uneven ground all the way to the door (which is narrow) and there is very little lighting inside. I guess you could say that you could vote early at the courthouse (which is what I typically do anyway), but the space the voting machines are set up in is also very narrow and not much room to maneuver for everyone! Something to really think about.

The location that Mr. Andi and I voted last year in the presidential election was the same way. Gravel and grass parking lot, no room to maneuver once inside the building, etc. It was a nightmare for those without mobility issues – I can’t imagine how bad it must have been for anyone with a chair, walker, or cane(s).
