Did you think I’d forgotten about this quarterly feature? Well, you’d be right. 😉 It’s a few weeks late, but here it is.
Photography is a big part of this blog, and of my life.
I don’t claim to be an expert, by any means, but I do what I can to show the world that life with two children with special needs – cerebral palsy and Down syndrome – is beautiful, special, and, yes, rather ordinary. At the end of each quarter I post my five favorite photos from the past three months. Some of the images you’ve seen here before; others have only been posted on Violet Film; all represent a slice of our life here in Mayberry. Click here for my previous Five Fave Photos.
Seriously. What’s not to love about this one?
I took a lot of photos when we were at my dad’s this summer visiting – bookending Sleep Study Numero Dos – but this one was one of my favorites. Oh, to be as carefree and uninhibited as a child walking through puddles…
So named because it was my second try at a First Day of School photo of Sarah Kate – the first was in the morning and she looked, um…not as good. This one, though, is one of my favorite photos of her ever – not because it’s one of the best, but because it’s her in every way, from her casual slouch to her squinty-eyed grin to the the braces and brightly colored shoes on her feet.
One of two of my faves this quarter that were both Instagram shots and from my dad’s 70th birthday party. Nathan was the hit, directing traffic (or, more accurately, waving to every car as it drove in).
I have so very few photos of me with either of the kids, because I’m always the one behind the lens. There’s absolutely nothing technically excellent about this Instagram shot, but I love it because it’s just me and my gal (and I don’t look fat…) 😉
Jenny says
#1 – I love these picture posts so much.
#2 – So this may be a silly thing for me to comment on… In the SK school pic, as I was reading the caption and read about braces, my immediate thought was: “When did SK get braces?!?” And I scrolled back up to the pic to look at her mouth. SMH. Her leg braces are so integral to her, and they’re just a part of who she is – I don’t think of her as ‘a girl with leg braces.’ She’s just SK.
