I’ll go ahead and get that last one out of the way right now. Remember last week when I speculated about certain Flickr users’ fetishes? Well, this week it became weird and gross but not quite as creepy. I noticed that someone had favorited this photo I took when Nathan threw his T-shirt and dirty diaper in the sink. I assumed it was someone that found it amusing … until I clicked through and found photo after photo after photo of used diapers. I can’t even begin to speculate. Nor do I want to.
Nathan went for his private speech evaluation on Tuesday, which was the same as the preschool speech evaluation except with less federal paperwork and a much heftier fee. 🙂 She determined that his major issues are weak jaw muscles and tongue control (no surprises there…) He’ll go once a week, so that’ll give him three days a week with a speech therapist – one clinical and two at school. Crossing our fingers…

10U. It’s here. Softball evaluations were this week and Sarah Kate did … pretty well, actually. She was slow running the bases, of course, but she fielded all the ground balls and all but one of the line drives and pop flies. The problem with fielding, of course, is that she can’t quickly get into position to catch a ball – but if one comes her way, she doesn’t miss.
I was pretty nervous when it came time for her to bat, but she did much better than I expected (10U is fast pitch, 8U was coach pitch so … not fast at all). It took me about 24 hours to figure out why (I think) she did so well – all of the balls were thrown flat, rather than with an arc. She hits a flat pitch much better, which is the main reason why she had such a great first season – her first coach figured out how to pitch flat to her when most of the girls were getting the slow lobs.
First game is September 23.

I’ve got a new post up at Parents.com, What To Expect Of Friends When You’re A Special Needs Mom, about the changes that special needs moms often face in their circle of friends after their child’s diagnosis. Part Two, How To Be A Good Friend To A Special Needs Mom, will be published next week. Many thanks to my blogging friend Ellen Seidman for the opportunity to share my thoughts (and sorta-kinda promote my ebook!)

Speaking of my free ebook, have you read it? Have you shared it with another parent? Have you passed it along to a therapist? Let me know!
That survey I posted yesterday? WOW. When I created it, I wasn’t sure if anybody would bother with it (because my mom is on a cross-country bus tour and my dad, um, isn’t great with a computer…) Within a couple of hours, I already had dozens of responses – you guys blew me away with your comments! I’m going to keep it open for another week or two so anyone who hasn’t taken it yet can; the feedback so far has been so great and I don’t want to miss out on any other wonderful nuggets. If you haven’t taken it yet, you can find it here.
Rounding out the Snippets with an Instagram of my girls:
Have a great weekend!
