Apparently, fathers are for setting poor examples. After grilling our dinner the other night, Mr. Andi brought a leaf in with him and was blowing on it, trying to make some kind of noise (I’m not sure what…I’m not up on my leaf noise making skills). I gently suggested that maybe putting a strange leaf in his mouth was not setting the best example for the children (one child in particular). Reluctantly, he set the leaf down.
Almost as if on cue, Nathan followed the poor example of his father figure and took a bite out of the leaf.
Sarah Kate is getting a new bike! Well, technically it’s a trike and it looks something like this one. It’s a hand-me-down from a former patient at her physical therapists’ office and she is SO excited. She loves to ride her bike, but she’s outgrowing it AND she’s never been confident enough to ride it without supervision because of fearing she might turn it over (which has happened and it’s not good because she has to use toe clips and she can’t get her legs out quick enough to catch herself). It does have training wheels, but they are extended as far as they’ll go and don’t provide much support anymore.
So a three wheel bike it is and other than the fact that it has an enormous storage footprint, I think it’s awesome. I can’t wait to see her riding it around the neighborhood all by herself. And yes, it does have an awesome basket in the back. ๐
An addendum to yesterday’s softball final game post: I think the opposing coach may have stacked the deck in Sarah Kate’s favor. I’m not saying that she did, but she did move her first baseman to shortstop midway through the game for no obvious reason. Did she do it in an attempt to give Sarah Kate a fighting chance? Maybe. Do I care? Not really. She still had to hit the ball and run the bases. It was no gimme.
For the record, I brought it up to Mr. Andi and he said “no way.”
Speaking of softball, will Sarah Kate play again? It’s a definite…maybe. I don’t want her to and neither does Mr. Andi, but we felt that way about swim team and about 8U softball and we were wrong about both. It’s easy to believe that 10U is “different,” but is it really? I’m not sure. I’m confident that it won’t be as much fun as 8U has been (mostly because that’s what I’ve heard from other moms whose girls moved up already), but that’s a “want to” issue, not a “can do” one.
One more reason to love Publix: their new Mother’s Day commercial.
We can add one more thing to the list of How Mr. Andi and his family are like the Robertsons of Duck Dynasty. He took Nathan frog hunting last night. More pictures to come over on Violet Film.
And finally, a major announcement about Seven Snippets: I’m discontinuing them after this week. Okay, not exactly. What I am doing is discontinuing the linkup, because the feedback I’ve received is that a lot of you guys like to read the snippets but not all that many of you like to write them. ๐ The snippets will live on, however, and I’ll continue to link them over at Jen’s place. And of course…if you want to keep on snippeting you can always link them in the combox.
Have a great weekend!

How does Sarah Kate feel about getting a trike being 10? I mean its great but I know what goes on in the minds of pre teen girls? ๐
Andi says
Well, obviously I can’t wholly speak for her, since I’m her mom and not her, BUT… she’s been harassing Mr. Andi and me for weeks about when she could bring it home (Mr. Andi is currently redoing a dresser and mirror for her room in the garage so until that’s done we have no place to store it). I’m guessing that means she likes it. ๐
I don’t anticipate it being an issue, though, for a couple of reasons. First – it doesn’t look like a typical toddler tricycle – just a regular bicycle but with two wheels on the back instead of one. In that respect, it’s much more grown-up looking than the bike she currently has (it also doesn’t scream “adaptive”). Second – bikes like these are semi-common in our community. I haven’t noticed any kids riding them, but I see adult women on them frequently. We live in a highly pedestrian and physically active community so it’s not unusual to see folks on scooters, three-wheel bikes, recumbent street bikes, etc., around town. In fact, I wouldn’t mind having a bike like this one myself!

We have been on biking trips where adults choose to ride on three wheeler bicycles. They really like the stability and comfort. The bikes look fine and ride well. Sarah Kate should enjoy this.

SK can practice on that trike for Trike Races in college. I know several campus’s in IN that have them!!!
Love the pic of Mr. Andi and Nathan. Dare I ask if you will be cooking frog legs in the future??
Andi says
*I* will not be cooking frog legs, but I’m pretty sure the frog legs are going to be cooked and eaten by someone.
