I have a new TV show obsession: Call the Midwife on PBS. I’m four episodes into the first season and I cried through episodes 2, 3, and 4, but episode 3 was my fave. Season 2 premiered last weekend and season 1 is available online until April 17. It might even be better than Downton Abbey.
Oh, yes, I did go there.
The show is based on a book, but not a novel – a memoir. So of course I want to read it. But I’m afraid to read it until I’ve finished watching season 1 (and maybe season 2, as well) because I don’t want there to be any spoilers. I’ve already been surprised a few times by the show, which is unusual, and I don’t want that to change.
Nathan’s adenotonsillectomy is scheduled for later this month, and Mr. Andi offered to go with him to give me a break. It was a very generous offer, and I considered it for about…two minutes. Momma bears can’t leave their cubs, even for a minor procedure like this one. So he’ll stay home with Sarah Kate while Nathan and I make the trek to Birmingham.
Mr. Andi and I achieved the nearly impossible last weekend. We got everyone up and ready in time to attend the 7:00 am Mass on Easter Sunday. Not only that, but we were EARLY. That may be our crowning achievement for 2013. In fact, by 9:30 am we had already been to church, come home, had our photo taken by a gracious neighbor who was outside taking photos of his family, changed into comfy clothes, gone to Waffle House for breakfast, and made it back home.
Yep, that’s right. This photo in the early morning light was taken AFTER Mass.
Public preschool has been going well. They tell me he doesn’t talk a lot (no surprise), is very busy (of course), and sits really well during table work and circle time (HUH?) The first day I thought maybe they were just being nice, but we have two weeks under our belts now and they’re sticking to their story. Kudos to his private preschool teacher, I guess, because earlier in the year that was, at best, an emerging skill.
Speaking of preschool, he loves it and has ZERO problems with the transition. In fact, I can’t even get a hug goodbye when I drop him off. Not only can I not get a hug goodbye, but I can’t even get a wave as I’m leaving. He physically avoids hugs and ignores my waves. On Monday, two other kids waved and told me bye while he just turned toward his teacher with a look that said, “Do you know who this strange woman is that’s speaking to me? Because I don’t know her and she’s kinda creeping me out.”
Have you joined in the conversation on my Ethan Saylor post yet? I’d like to hear from a few more voices on this subject. Don’t be afraid to jump in, even if you disagree. 🙂
Have a great weekend!

Earlier this week, I put Call the Midwife into my Netflix queue. I’m excited to hear you’re enjoying it! I might have to start it sooner rather than later.

I just LOVE “Call the Midwife” – it’s so awesome! I figured the Season 2 episodes would be aired at 9 o’clock just like the Season 1 episodes had been, but I didn’t check for sure and in the end I totally missed that first episode of Season 2! Thank goodness for online repeats, though!
