Photography is a big part of this blog, and of my life.
I don’t claim to be an expert, by any means, but I do what I can to show the world that life with two children with special needs – cerebral palsy and Down syndrome – is beautiful, special, and, yes, rather ordinary. At the end of each quarter in 2012, I posted my five favorite photos of that quarter, and I’m continuing the practice with five more from the first quarter of 2013. Some of the images you’ve seen here before; others have only been posted on Violet Film; all represent a slice of our life here in Mayberry. Click here for my other Five Fave Photos.
The Home Stretch was detailed in an earlier blog post, so I won’t add much here. But looking back on it over two months later, I see that an outsider would be unlikely to recognize the story behind it.
“Deer” is one of my faves because my boy is so ADORBS in the photo, but also because it perfectly captures the stage of life he was in at that moment. Lots of signs, lots of word approximations. Although he still has a long way to go, his speech has already improved from when this photo was taken in January.
Ready…Set…Go! was Nathan’s newest fave phrase (still is, come to think of it), applicable to pretty much any situation he deems enjoyable. On this day, he was standing at one end of the love seat and diving on Sarah Kate, who found the game just as enjoyable as he did. Side note: this photo taken two days before he got sick.
Or Not… was so named because the photo taken a few seconds before it showed a sick boy snuggling with mom, looking content and happy. But he was trying to rally, and get away as quick as he could. 🙂
Ground Out, But RBI is a photo of another girl (unnamed for the blog’s purposes, though we know her well), with Sarah Kate in the background and out of focus. But it demonstrates the way in which Sarah Kate has been a benefit to her softball team this season – lots of RBIs.
