Let’s talk about Halloween! As I told you in yesterday’s post, Nathan dressed as R2D2 for my friend Katie’s wedding reception, which preceded Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party that evening. Continuing my tradition of coordinating the kids’ costumes (which my oldest has, thankfully, not balked at yet), Sarah Kate dressed as Padme Amidala. We were going to do Princess Leia with the cinnamon bun hair and long white gown, but I didn’t think it was a great idea to have her wearing that while climbing in and out of the wheelchair multiple times at Disney.
Unfortunately, everyone in the neighborhood assumed she was Leia, anyway, but that disappointment was more than overshadowed by the Disney cast members last week who greeted her with, “Hey, Padme!” so I’m calling it a success.
Speaking of Star Wars, you may have heard the news that Disney bought Lucasfilm this week, which apparently equates to impending Starmageddon for devoted fans of the Star Wars films. For Pretenders like me (Mr. Andi’s words), though, it’s more along the lines of, “Well, this could be interesting.” At any rate, Disney Parks posted the following video on their YouTube on Halloween (when my two kids were, coincidentally, dressed as two beloved Star Wars characters), and it made me chuckle. I hear from my friend Adrienne that it’s recycled from the opening of Star Tours at Disneyland, but this Pretender doesn’t care.
So Halloween was…interesting. Nathan was delighted to discover that he was allowed to walk/run all over the neighborhood unencumbered by hand-holding, harness-wearing, or any other restrictive devices. So run/walk he did…until he hit the figurative wall and crashed HARD.
Do you read Lower Extremity Review? Me, neither. But in an alternate reality where you and I had actually heard of it before and read it in October, you’d have seen a photo of Sarah Kate accompanying one of their articles.
I wrote the first four Snippets last night, planning to finish them up this morning. Unfortunately, a small, young male individual who resides in this house has become quite vomit-y and, as a result, quite clingy, so I’m going to finish up with a few pics from last week instead.
“This R2 unit has a bad motivator.” ―Luke Skywalker. (Hat tip to Joey for the quote that perfectly captured Nathan’s status during the wedding reception)
And finally, a couple of the kiddos together…
Have a great weekend!

You should have put up an “adorable kid” warning at the beginning of this post. Reece is sitting here with me and now she has renewed her petition for a baby brother! 😉 She thinks Sarah Kate is quite lucky! (“That’s true, I do!” – Reece)

I’ll share your compliment with my mother – she made the dress. I’m not sure how long you’ve been reading, but it was actually her first communion dress from a year and a half ago. My mom changed out the piece around the waist and added a piece around the bottom to make it longer. The monogram is “SKS” which are Sarah Kate’s initials, but they are also the bride and groom’s (Steve and Katie Schwarz).

What did you wear for a costume? 🙂

I bet you can guess, but since you’re likely the only one who might, I’ll tell you. I went as Dork Mom, which is to say that I didn’t dress up but did wear jeans and a royal blue T-shirt that said (in Star Wars-style lettering) “Come to the Dork Side. We Have Pi.” Greek letter Pi, get it?
A sweet friend named Sarah picked it for me in Boston a couple of weeks ago. 🙂
