Nathan’s photo is still going strong. Most of the comments are still positive, but occasionally they aren’t. Like the person who stated simply, “Kill it with fire.” Thankfully, that one got deleted.
And yes, some people do still think he’s a girl.
The IDSC for Life has reached 10,000 fans on their Facebook page now! Don’t quote me on it, but I think the number was around 1,500 when Nathan’s photo was first posted. All of these new fans mean that some of the other images in the photo campaign have gotten wide exposure, as well. Great news!
Have you heard about 3-parent babies? It’s amazing to me what science can do, but it’s kind of terrifying to me that we don’t know what the unintended consequences will be of this new technology.
For everyone who read yesterday’s post and decided never to comment here again, lest you be called out, don’t worry. I’ve never done that before and expect it to be a rare occurrence – it’s much more likely that I’d call out a commenter for praise because I think what he or she wrote needs to be read by everyone because it’s so awesome.
Sarah Kate is going to be swimming breaststroke in the last swim meet of the season. I think she will receive a special accommodation for her kick, but even so, I’m surprised that this day has come. Wonders never cease.
If you have a few minutes to do a little research, check into this petition and, if you are so inclined, sign it. I usually hesitate to get involved in situations like this one, but the mother in this case is an “imaginary” acquaintance of mine via the WWW who also has family in our area. I believe she loves her son and wishes to do the best for him, and I don’t agree with the “expert” testimony that indicated her son doesn’t know the difference between his mother and a nanny.
And finally, my friend Dawn thinks I’ve been being a little too hard on doctors lately. She reminded me that everyone should be responsible for doing their own research in all cases, with which I wholeheartedly agree. And just for the record…I know without a doubt that parents are pressured to abort “imperfect” children by doctors who only provide one side of the story. But what I also know is that there are many other doctors (and I hope the number is much higher than I believe it to be) who give patients a realistic, balanced picture of life with a special needs child. Doctors aren’t the enemy, but they also aren’t God.
Have a great weekend!
