Remember when I said that we are ALL IN for softball? I wasn’t kidding. Sarah Kate watched most of the Women’s College World Series, including all three games of the championship. The final game was Wednesday night but was rain-delayed by three hours. I wasn’t willing to stay up myself let her stay up until 2am to watch it, so I promised to DVR it for her (assuring her that we wouldn’t ask anyone who won before we watched it). She set her alarm for 6 am so she could watch it before she went to swim practice.
Sarah Kate’s league was coach-pitched this spring, but obviously the college women’s games aren’t. As a result, Sarah Kate expressed to me yesterday that she needs to practice her pitching between now and the fall, because the girls pitch in the next league up. Is she fearless or clueless? I have no idea. But I love her spunk.
Swim team is upon us again! Sarah Kate’s first meet of the season – the blue & yellow intrasquad meet – was last night. She swam the 25 backstroke and the 50 freestyle this time. In the past, she always swam the 25 free, so the 50 was a challenge for her. She did well, though, and I plan to have more swim team posts in the coming weeks.
And yes, that is her tan line showing on her back. And yes, I do put sunscreen on her – SPF 50.
Did you catch my guest post at Enabled Kids this week? The topic was “Tips for parents of a little one with a disability” and is based on my own experiences during Sarah Kate’s toddler and preschool years. It’s a topic I’ve covered here before, but it’s been awhile, so be sure to check it out.
I was uber-psyched to join Jeff Goins’ 15 Habits of Great Writers Challenge this week. I’ve been starstruck by following Jeff ever since he linked to two of my r-word posts last year when I was still blogging at Double Dose of Special, and since that time he’s developed a huge following (which absolutely has nothing to do with linking to me but gives me a tiny bit of I-sorta-knew-him-when pleasure in a weird blogging stranger way). Anyway..I was pumped about the challenge until I got the Day 2 email, which told me to get up two hours early to write.
Sigh.
Jeff: You’re right, you’re right, I know you’re right. I’ve been trying to talk myself into getting up just one hour early for about six months now. But two hours early when both of my kids are already rising at 6:30 (in summer!) didn’t happen.
But I still want to do it. Later. And if you’re so inclined, join Jeff’s challenge. And feel free to attempt to shame me into doing it, too.
It dawned on me this week why Phineas and Ferb is about the only Disney Channel show that airs in the p.m. that I can stand. I think it’s (at least partly) because Phineas and Ferb aren’t ridiculous. So many shows (and commercials… and movies…) these days portray men and boys as imbeciles or well-meaning goofballs. Phineas and Ferb are ambitious and smart and geeky. Love it!
We’re thinking that Stella may be a good candidate for backyard dog agility. Of course, she first needs to learn to sit, lay down, shake, stay, and the like, but the fact that she doesn’t know those things appears to be more a function of my perpetual laziness than her lack of intelligence. So if you know anything about dog agility for schnauzer-ishes, let me know. She’s a smart dog and a sweet dog…she just needs to burn off a little energy in a constructive way.
In related news, does anyone know where to buy a new charger for a Nintendo DS Lite?

Sarah Kate is quite the athlete! I have been out of touch with a friend from my earlier years and I think she might benefit from your site specifically regarding the adversities you and your children overcome!
Re: Phineas and Ferb….I know of children and adults alike who LOVE them! I’m definitely guilty of letting my eyes become glued to the screen for Disney Channel shows, though I opted out of cable in late 2011 and have enjoyed the extra time and money.
As far as the charger for the DS Lite, the best source I’ve found is Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Wall-Charger-Nintendo-DS-Lite-eForCity/dp/B000NUBY0C). I’m not a huge fan of non-OEM products, but this has had very favorable reviews. Another similar product I can relate is HDMI cables. Amazon is the only place I will buy them and I only pay $5.00 or less. I’m a technology lover if that helps!
