Remember when I said I was going to be in Dandelion magazine? Well, both the prints and digital versions are available now and I received my courtesy copies in the mail yesterday. To my surprise, Nathan was on the cover of the Bay Area version (Sacramento has a different cover)! So, I’m published and Nathan is a cover model. 🙂 You can find the digital version here or you can see just the cover on Dandelion’s homepage.
The Sky Rockets’ final two games – a doubleheader that will determine who finishes first place in the league – are tonight. This time tomorrow, they’ll either be in first, tied, or second place. Closing ceremonies are Monday evening.
Sarah Kate’s coach told Mr. Andi on Wednesday that Sarah Kate is getting a special award on Saturday at the Sky Rockets’ end-of-season pool party. I think Sarah Kate’s coach deserves an award for taking a chance on her. Despite the drama caused by a few power-hungry adults, this season has been better than I dreamed possible three months ago.
One thing I failed to mention in yesterday’s post about speech is that Nathan whispers some of the words he signs. So of the handful of words he speaks, about half of them are actually whispered. We’re not sure why that is. Anyone have an idea?
Swim team starts practice on Tuesday. It’ll be interesting to see how Sarah Kate does after not having been in the water much since last summer. I intended to take her to the pool regularly through the winter, but didn’t. I’m sure she will have regressed some, but given that she’s improved physically in other ways this spring, it’s possible that she may have gained strength in areas we aren’t expecting.
Remember Hussain, the young boy in Iraq with Down syndrome who’s waiting to receive heart surgery through the Preemptive Love Coalition? Well, I learned this week that his surgery had to be pushed back to August. Matt will be sharing more information on Hussain and other children here in the coming months. If you haven’t yet, be sure to go visit his online surgery party page!
And because I know everyone wants an update on Stella…I’m happy to say that she’s doing well so far. Daisy seems to enjoy having a playmate, and she’s not as anxious about us leaving as she used to be. And of course the most obvious sign that she’s thriving – she’s gained three pounds since she moved in. Oops. 🙂
Have a great weekend!

My daughter (with Ds) also whispered a lot of her words at first. She’s 6 now, and yells her words whenever possible, but when she was first starting to speak there was a lot of whispering. We figured she was trying to get it to sound perfect before raising the volume so others could hear. 🙂
