Doc didn’t make it. He was too weak for anesthesia to sew him up, and he apparently got a blood infection. He died on Tuesday evening – Sarah Kate and I went to see him and he gave her two weak meows then stopped breathing. She and Mr. Andi had a funeral for him at home on Wednesday.
I had two indoor cats for many years and was hesitant about having Doc be outside, but he insisted. I bought a St. Francis medal for him to wear on his collar to keep him safe. I noticed a couple of weeks ago that he had lost it. Hmmm…
Sarah Kate has been pretty sad about the passing of her cat, but she’s handled it a really mature manner. I’m so proud of her. Doc was HER kitty, not OUR kitty, so it was rough for her. But she said she’s happy she had the time she had with him and is glad he isn’t suffering anymore.
The death of the beloved cat wasn’t the only low point of the week. Nathan started the week with a low grade fever and a mild diaper rash that mushroomed into a severe rash over most of his body. He was admitted to the University of South Alabama Children’s and Women’s Hospital on Wednesday night. So now you know why there was no Thursday post.
Good news is Nathan was released 24 hours later. At first, the doctor said “maybe tomorrow, but no promises.” An hour or so later, she changed her mind and told us we would be discharged. I suspect they had cameras in the room and she saw something that changed her mind.
Sarah Kate wants a new pet. Never mind that we already have Daisy the Wild Westie; she wants a dog of her own. Daisy is technically the family dog, but I’m her fave human. Actually, she wants a cat but Mr. Andi is allergic and she doesn’t want to risk another situation like we had with Doc. She wants a small dog that’s calm. Does such a thing exist?
I can’t miss any days on my 365/366 project. Ever. If I managed to post a photo every day THIS week, then I have no excuses to miss a day in the future. I have to say…I’m kinda proud of myself. 🙂
Have a great weekend!

My sister is a veterinarian and she has always said that Pugs are a most wonderful calm and illness free pet. Sturdy, smart and good.
I think it is tremendous what an advocate you are on behalf of your children and all the others in this world as well. You are insightful and amusing and since I have begun to read your blog via my facebook friend, Trish Iford, I have felt such a joy in the reading of your blog. I have no children of my own, have never been able to have any, so it is always wonderful to read about children and yours are so incredibly wonderful. Thank you for sharing them with me.
