Sun-Beams is a collection of links to stories, articles, photos, or videos I have come across that I believe will inspire, inform, or encourage you, as well as my favorite photo posted on my other blog, Violet Film, from the past week.
Matisse’s Kitchen – Take a few minutes and take a look at this young lady’s blog. Amazing. She was also recently featured on CookingLight.com.
Mariah Slick, a Student With Down Syndrome, Crowned Homecoming Queen – A similar story to many I’ve posted here before, but this one has video! Love her dad’s reaction…
$2.9M awarded to parents of child with Down Syndrome – Remember the story about the “wrongful birth” civil case that I posted last week? Well…we have a verdict. Parents get a pile of money because they didn’t “get” to abort their daughter.
In labour for 75 days! Triplets’ mother spent it all lying upside down to save two babies – Ending on a more positive note, a mom with a bit more selfless attitude about her children
Photo of the Week:
Update: Thanks to reader Wren for letting me know that I messed up the Mariah Slick link. It should be fixed now!

Andi, my mom had a patient many years ago whose water broke at 24 weeks, leaving just a tiny pocket of fluid around the baby’s face. She spent almost 100 days in a hospital bed with her bum up in the air to keep that fluid in their for her baby to continue to develop. Mom would go to the restaurants in town and bring her yummy meals a few times a week to keep her from eating weeks upon weeks of hospital food. That baby is in college now. 🙂 Lots of amazing moms out there… I get stir crazy after a couple of days in the house– I really admire women who have stories of sacrifice like these!

I was in the hospital lying exclusively on my left side for almost a week before Sarah Kate was born. They told me when I went in that I’d be like that for the duration of the pregnancy (I was barely 29 weeks along at the time). We were hoping for a couple more months but she didn’t want to wait. 🙂
