I was training for the Marine Corps Marathon when I learned I was pregnant with Nathan.
My doctor, knowing I was an experienced distance runner, allowed me to continue, and I went on to complete the marathon while sixteen weeks pregnant, and the Walt Disney World Half Marathon (and the 5K the day before) while 27 weeks pregnant. I have all three medals hanging in a shadowbox in Nathan’s room.
It was only natural that when I ran the Walt Disney World Marathon last year, that I’d sign Nathan up for the Diaper Dash. The Diaper Dash went about how you’d expect – lots of confused babies, yelling parents, and general chaos. He scored his medal, though.
I returned to Walt Disney World this year, and signed him up for another race – the 100 meters.
I did it months in advance, never expecting that he’d take so long to walk independently, so I didn’t have high hopes for the distance (Hello! He’d been walking less than a month!) Another little friend of ours, Madison, was running, as well. She’s been mobile for a bit longer, so we expected her to leave Nathan in the dust. Which she did – several times. ๐
It was a Tortoise and Hare kind of day.
We’re back home now and getting into the swing of “regular life” again after the madness of the holidays and our trip.
