My myth busting methods aren’t exactly scientific, but I’d say the video below affirms one myth – that people with Down syndrome love music – and busts another – that people with Down syndrome have difficulty problem solving.
You’ve already seen Nathan’s moves in action. Now take a look at a new trick he’s mastered.
Did you catch that? There’s a button on the tractor that you can push that cycles through four different sounds: mooing cow, tractor engine starting, farmer talking, and a song. He pushes the button four times in succession so he can listen to the song over and over.
And dance, of course.

To Cristeena, my parents were told to leave my brother in the hospital and they would “take care” of him. That was 37 years ago. Fortunately, they took him home, and we all loved him and encouraged him and have been amazed by him. I’m so proud to be his sister. Yes, He will learn at a different pace, but he will surprise and delight you for a lifetime. My advice: love him, accept him, defend him. He will be your shining light.
To Andi,
Thank you for this blog. You are an amazing woman.
